Synopsis

Among the three Ghost stories of this Charles Dickens collection, The Signal Man is based on the true incident of 1861 Clayton Tunnel crash. The story is told by an unnamed narrator who meets the signal man works nearby a tunnel. The signal man could visualize tragic incidents through a spectre before it happens. At first a spectre waves a hand to the signal man and preceded by the train collision. Second the spectre shows hand as moaning sign preceded by death of young woman in the train passing through the tunnel. The third visual leads to death of the signal man who gets crushed by a passing train in the tunnel.
