Synopsis

The Moon and Sixpence is a novel written by William Somerset Maugham. Though the author does not disclose, it is persumed the central character resembles the life of painter Paul Gauguin. Strickland, a London stock broker in search of carreer in painting moves to Paris leaving his family without any financial support. His miserable life at Paris comes to end with support from Dutch Painter Dirk Stroeve, who gets compensated by having Blanche, wife of Strickland. In the preceding events it is narrated that Strickland leads comfortable life and dies of Leprosy. All his paintings were preserved by his son, except his magnum opus painted on the wall which was destroyed as per his wish.
