Synopsis

The Consolation of Philosophy is the most popular prison literature, written by Roman philosopher Anicius Manlius Boethius. Boethius wrote this work while he was imprisoned for treachery by Ostrogothic King Theodoric the Great. The work is narrated as Lady Philosophy consoling Boethius by answering his questions about happiness, Sin, power, honor and pleasure. It is unfortunate to note that Boethius was hanged to death after this work was completed.
