Synopsis
Horace Walpole's novel The Castle of Otranto initiated the new literary genre Gothic fiction, which has become popular in next centuries by authors like Bram Stoker and Edgar Allan Poe. The Castle of Otranto narrates the thrust for power would lead people to any extent. To avert an ancient prophecy of losing lordship, lord of the castle Manfred plots to marry his own son's fiancee Isabella after disowning her wife. Isabella escapes from the Castle and is saved by a peasant named Theodore. Isabella's father is obsessed with Manfred's daughter Matilda and both of them make a deal to marry each others daughter.
