Synopsis

Geoffrey Chaucer's magnum opus The Canterbury Tales is a collection of stories which portrayed 14th century English society and the Church. The author present the tales as part of the story telling contest participated by a group of pilgrims during their travel from Southwark to the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. Though the structure is similar to The Decameron, it is unclear about the targeted audience for this book as the themes found are differ vastly like love, treachery, and avarice in the genres of romance, sermon, and feast fable.
