Synopsis

Oedipus the King is the first play of the Oedipus Trilogy penned by Athenian tragedian Sophocles. Disowned as an infant by his parents Thebes King Laius and Queen Jocasta, Oedipus raised by King Polybus. Knowing his past and the prophecy stating he will kill his father, Oedipus leaves King Polybus falsely interpreting his as father. However the incidents eventually lead to realization of the prophecy, and knowing the reality that he killed his father and married his own mother, Oedipus blinds himself with pins.
